Their hands touched … and stilled. Her breath stopped. A simple touch had never affected her this way before. She looked up and their eyes locked, much the same as they had the night before. She heard him catch his breath, and when he spoke it was only her name. “Jane.”
It was all she could do to stay in her chair. In spite of the fact they barely knew each other … in spite of the fact she knew she was only a guest in his home because of his gallantry and generosity, she wanted to wrap her arms around his neck and kiss him until they were both senseless. She could hardly breathe as her eyes took in every inch of his face. Finally, she was able to speak. “I can see you’re enjoying your breakfast,” she said teasingly. “You’re wearing a little bit of your blueberry muffin as evidence. It’s right here.”
She felt him still as she leaned forward to carefully touch the area next to his mouth gently with her thumb and brush the tiny crumb away. Oh, how she wished she could run her thumb slowly across his full lower lip … move her hands to caress his handsome face. What would it be like to have him capture her hand to lick and then suck on her thumb, followed by one delicious finger after another, and then move on to other more sensitive parts of her body? Her heart was racing at the thought of what it would be like to be held in his arms and to feel the press of his lips against hers.
What am I doing? Why can’t I seem to control myself when I’m around this man?
