It’s fun to fall in love. Meeting someone new and getting to know them is exciting. It’s not quite as much fun or near as exciting to stand next to them while their mouth is filled with foam as they brush their teeth, to stand in front of a sink full of the dirty dishes they left on the counter, or even to wash the stained and smelly clothes of the person you’ve been with for years.
If it’s true that we get more of what we focus on (and I believe it is), then I’m going to continue to choose to focus on how cute my guy looks when his hair is sticking up all over the place first thing in the morning. I’m going to choose to remember all the times he’s taken me out to dinner when I was too tired to cook. I’m going to choose to be grateful for all the good stuff he’s brought into my life and do my best to ignore or, at least, minimize the less than wonderful aspects of our relationship. I choose to stay in love.
